We are seeking a Process Optimization Engineer to join the Advanced Process Solutions Division of the Process and Control Systems Department.
The Advanced Process Solutions Division (APSD) is responsible for providing advanced solutions, to allow Saudi Aramco’s operational facilities to run their assets in an automated, optimized, and integrated manner. APSD designs, tests, deploys, and supports technologies related to visualization, simulation, optimization, and advanced control, with focus on talent development, to improve and sustain asset efficiency, availability, reliability, product quality, and effectiveness.
The Process Optimization Engineer’s primary role is to develop advanced optimization tools for strategic, tactical, and operational decision making (planning, scheduling, and other process optimization). The candidate will be expected to drive development of supply chain optimization applications and solutions, and contribute to the development of other process optimization and simulation models.
As the successful candidate, you will hold Master degree in Chemical Engineering, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or other related fields from a recognized and approved program. A Ph.D. degree is preferred.
You will have 9 plus years of experience in areas such as statistics, economics, and mathematical modeling. Knowledge of optimization methods and algorithms (linear, nonlinear, and mixed integer programming, heuristic, and stochastic programming) is also necessary.
You must have experience in using any of the commercial modeling and optimization software packages such as General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS), Advanced Interactive Multidimensional Modeling System (AIMMS), or A Mathematical Programming Language (AMPL).
You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of development and testing, along with architecture design and implementation of innovative optimization solutions.
You will have the ability to guide internal customers to define their needs, translate them into functional design specifications, and develop a solution in cooperation with our IT group.
You must have excellent written and verbal English skills, with experience in developing standards or procedures and writing technical reports. Independent working habits, excellent communication skills, with a strong teamwork attitude are also requirements. Having published technical papers in international recognized journals and conferences is also preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:
Define optimization problems (planning, scheduling, and other process optimization), specify requirements and investigate options (model and optimization algorithms) for solving the problems.
Identify, evaluate, and select potential vendors to support in solving the problems and developing tools.
You will also formulate mathematical models and optimization, simulation and/or data mining methods by using (or developing) requisite software for strategic, tactical, and operational decision making.
You will demonstrate practical knowledge of mixed integer programming, heuristics and meta-heuristics, and network algorithms.
You will also build agent-based, discrete-event, and continuous simulation models.
You are also expected to take full ownership of optimization solutions, and train team members and other users on the use of the developed solutions.
