We are seeking a Composite Materials Modeling and Simulation Expert to join the Oil & Gas Network Integrity (O&GNI) Research & Development Division at the Research and Development Center.
The Oil & Gas Network Integrity (OGNI) Research & Development Division is responsible for providing innovative solutions to enhance the reliability and improve the performance of the Company’s operating assets. Within this ambit, particular focus is placed on the expansion of the operating envelop of nonmetallic composite materials, to reduce costs associated with corrosion and to capitalize on the expansion along the hydrocarbon value chain.
Your main role is to develop a new generation of composite materials and structures for the oil and gas, automotive, building and construction, and renewables sectors. You should possess strong technical competencies in heterogeneous material modeling and simulation, with a focus on continuous fiber-reinforced plastics. You will develop and implement appropriate predictive numerical or analytical methods such as finite element, multiscale modeling, and molecular dynamics modeling to predict thermomechanical properties, strength, fatigue, adhesion, or permeation of novel composite architectures, including the effect of manufacturing process on the performances of products to be deployed in cross-sector applications. You will work as part of a team, suggest different morphologies of composite material and structure, calibrate numerical and analytical models with results from sample characterizations and testing, and provide on-demand guidance in experimental testing campaigns. You should be familiar with international standards in testing and the qualification of polymer composites materials and have a good knowledge of common composite manufacturing techniques (injection molding, resin transfer molding, autoclave, etc.) and numerical tools used to simulate such manufacturing processes.
As the successful candidate you will hold a PhD degree or a Master’s degree in Computational Material Science or Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on polymer composite modeling and simulation from a recognized and approved program.
You will have at least 15 years of industrial or academic experience, including at least 10 years of experience working on composite materials modeling. You should have a strong knowledge and experience with finite element tools used in composite materials modeling (ANSYS, ABAQUS, DIGIMAT, COMSOL Multiphysics). You should have experience in molecular simulation (e.g., MEDEA) and multiscale modeling.
You will also have a record of publications in recognized international peer-reviewed journals and noticeable experience in business planning and evaluations of technical sales offers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:
Identify, implement, and apply efficient computational methods for the predictive modeling of nonmetallic material and structures and lead collaborative R&D projects toward enabling such applications.
Propose and participate in new research programs and contribute to research strategies to expand the operating envelope of nonmetallic composite materials in Oil & Gas (O&G) applications.
Establish and manage collaborations with other units, department and external partners to accelerate the achievement of goals and maximize the impact of the research programs.
Train and mentor young scientists/engineers/technicians to acquire the technical know-how and expertise to become fully independent in leading technical tasks and projects.
Support through modeling the development of new materials, new composite products and manufacturing processes for the successful field implementation of high-temperature, high-pressure applications
You should remain up to date with the ongoing development in the field of specialization, be able to publish technical findings in international peer-reviewed journals, and write patents and perform technology landscaping in support of current and future research activities.
