Position Description:
We are seeking a Technical Writer to join the Loss Prevention Department (LPD) at Saudi Aramco, based in our main headquarters in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Aramco is a fully integrated, global petroleum enterprise, and a world leader in exploration and producing, refining, distribution, marketing, and petrochemicals manufacturing. LPD provides safety services to customers and stakeholders, including Saudi Aramco corporate and executive management and operating, support and project organizations, as well as employees, the Saudi Arabian Government, contractors, and members of the public. LPD has nine divisions, seven field divisions and two centralized technical support divisions.

You will be responsible for producing all types of articles for the assigned publications or for various Loss Prevention booklets, brochures, and other special projects. This will involve writing feature articles on operational safety, community projects, employee programs, and special interest items for Loss Prevention Department periodicals and publications.

Minimum Requirements:
As the successful candidate, you must:

Have gained a degree in journalism or English from an accredited degree program.

Have a minimum of 5 years of experience as an editor or writer with an institutional or commercial newspaper.

Demonstrate a high proficiency in written and spoken English, particularly as related to the requirements of journalism and technical phraseology.

Have a thorough knowledge of the technical aspects of printing to follow and check steps in the production of publications.

Must be perceptive in the handling of matters of a confidential nature.

Ideally have some experience/knowledge within the oil industry.

Duties & Responsibilities:
You are required to perform the following:

Edits news items, features, and columns written by staff or contributors by checking factual accuracy, making sure certain copy conforms to the Company’s editorial policy, and checking all details of editorial style for consistency with the relevant publication-style manual.

Writes articles on major company operations and projects, often consulting with subject matter specialists.

Writes special diversified stores by conducting interviews and researching subject matter, as necessary, to develop information.

Follows all production steps with the local press as assigned. This includes after-hours work and weekends as necessary.

Clears articles for publication by submitting drafts to concerned members of management up to and including the Chairman of the Board.

Selects photographs to accompany news stories and features, considering possible government and public objection to pictures and writes captions.

Originates, updates/edits booklets and brochures as required by all Saudi Aramco departments. These include booklets on the oil industry, benefits pamphlets, recruitment brochures, training booklets, etc., involving consulting references and other sources for authenticity and accuracy.

Writes/edits material used by all departments in written and audiovisual productions intended for presentation or distribution, both within and outside the Saudi Aramco community. This includes editing for style and compliance with Company policies on sensitive issues.

Keeps informed of Company and local projects and activity through personal contacts, the Visitor's List, Highlights, and Notices, etc., to initiate news stories.

Prepares correspondence to contributors, outside firms, and contractors as required; keeps records of payments to contributors.

Supervises maintenance of subject index files of clippings and articles; maintains file of background information and biographical data on employees.

Acts as editor in the absence of the editor.
