Req Number: 17530BR
We are seeking a Clastic Sedimentologist to join the Emerging Unconventional Assets of Unconventional Resources Organization.
You will have strong geological and sedimentological background and be proficient in clastic core description from a broad range of depositional environments, facies analysis, petrographic interpretation, sequence stratigraphy, log correlation and diagenetic modelling. Specific experience in shallow marine (linear and deltaic) coastlines, glaciated margins, sediment gravity flow processes, borehole image interpretation and Lower Palaeozoic North African/Arabian stratigraphy is highly advantageous. A proven record of working within multi-disciplinary project teams, providing sedimentological advice/input. Data Integration experience using 2D/3D Seismic, Gravity, Magnetic, wireline logs, core, specialist geological techniques - SEM, XRD, chemo stratigraphy, isotopes, and biostratigraphy to provide analysis of well data in terms of sedimentary architecture, facies, and depositional environments.
As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from a recognized and approved program. An advanced degree is preferred.
You will have At least 10 years' of oil and gas industry experience is required. Strong geological software skills (Petrel, Openwork’s / DSS) preferred. Peer-reviewed, published scientific articles in sedimentology, reservoir geology, and / or unconventional plays is a plus.
Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:
Conduct detailed sedimentological studies based on core logging, petrography, diagenesis and integration of open hole logs to facilitate unconventional reservoir evaluation, exploration and development in clastic sequences of glacial, fluvial and deep basin systems and/or shale/source rock systems.
Establish detailed sequence stratigraphic and depositional environment models (2D and 3D) for unconventional reservoirs in clastic systems.
Integrating all available data (2D/3D seismic, gravity, magnetic, wireline logs, core, specialist geological techniques SEM, XRD, chemostratigraphy, isotopes, biostratigraphy, etc.) to provide analysis of well data in terms of sedimentary architecture, facies and depositional environment.
Understanding of associated subsurface disciplines (geophysics, biostratigraphy, chemostratigraphy, petrophysics, structural geology and reservoir geology).
Responsible for the development of basin, and reservoir exploration models, and 3-D static geological models.
Conduct detailed sedimentological investigations, draw conclusions, and make recommendations to support asset evaluations. Mentor co-workers in applying sedimentological principles to wider geological issues.
Support and mentor co-workers in applying sedimentological principles to wider exploration and development issues. Develop and promote sedimentological best practices across the unconventional resource teams.
Remain abreast of latest industry trends, best practices and technologies in sedimentology.
Saudi Aramco’s Exploration & Producing (E&P) business line oversees the world’s largest reserves of conventional crude oil, and the fourth-largest reserves of natural gas. The Company’s reserves portfolio include Ghawar, the world’s largest onshore oil field, and Safaniya, the largest offshore field. Company geologists are actively seeking additional reserves in many areas of the Kingdom, offshore in the Gulf and the Red Sea and onshore in the deserts and mountains. Petroleum engineers and earth scientists in E&P work with cutting-edge technology to manage and produce these reserves, including 3D visualization, reservoir simulation and remote geosteering of multilateral wells. The Company’s Exploration and Petroleum Engineering Center, or EXPEC, is home to one of the industry’s most powerful computer centers. Research and development into subsurface upstream technology is conducted at the EXPEC Advanced Research Center. For more than two decades in a row, Saudi Aramco has been ranked the No. 1 oil company in the world by Petroleum Intelligence Weekly, a testament to the dedication and professionalism of the men and women of Exploration & Producing.
