We are seeking an Engineering Specialist that is recognized as an expert in the field of Process Automation Systems to join the Process & Control Systems Department / Process Automation Systems Division, based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
The Process Automation Systems Division provides engineering expertise in Instrumentation, Process Automation Systems, Process Automation Networks and Systems Security, Hydro-carbon Custody Measurement and High Integrity Pressure Protection systems.
Working as part of the company’s central engineering organization, the successful candidate will be involved in the development of corporate engineering standards and material systems specifications for the above systems.
They will provide technical support and propose innovative solutions to solve operational challenges at production facilities.
They will evaluate new technologies from suppliers in their areas of expertise.
They will perform engineering studies to recommend solutions to high level corporate technical issues and develop and present technical reports and presentations to engineering teams and management.
They will become a recognized corporate authority in their field of expertise.
They will evaluate new and emerging technologies and will pioneer Saudi Aramco’s use of these technologies.
They will lead project design reviews in his area of specialty in support of the company’s capital projects.
The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical or Systems Engineering from a recognized and accredited university.
A Master’s degree is preferred.
They shall have a minimum of 15 years professional experience in in Process Automation system design, testing, commissioning and operation with extensive experience in the oil and gas industry.
They shall have experience in the design and configuration of DCS (Distributed Control System), ESD (Emergency Shutdown System), CCS (Compressor Control System), SCADA (Supervisory control and Data Acquisition) and RTU (Remote Terminal Unit).
The successful candidate shall possess the following as a minimum:
Must be knowledgeable with international standards in the field of Instrumentation and Process Automation such as ISA, IEC, IEEE and NFPA. Prior experience as a standard committee member is preferred.
Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and be highly competent in writing and developing technical reports and presentations in English.
Must have presented papers in industrial conferences or published papers in technical journals.
Must hold certification in Functional Safety Engineering from TUV or equivalent and have ISA Certification as an Automation professional or equivalent.
Active membership in a relevant professional society, such as International Society of Automation (ISA) is preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:
Provide expert advice and assistance to Company organizations, suppliers, and design contractors on technical issues relating to his area of expertise.
Lead or participate in engineering studies to determine potential problems and remedies to existing problems resolve complex technical problems, increase revenue, optimize processes, protect the environment, or improve safety.
Develop and maintain Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards and Procedures, Best Practices and other documentation to enhance company profitability, safety and productivity.
Evaluate and introduce new technologies to help the Company achieve Best in Class positions in the oil and gas business.
Review and evaluate the capabilities of vendors and contractors to determine their acceptability to perform major services to Aramco. Acts as Aramco’s representative in dealings with vendors and manufacturers pertaining to his field of experience.
Work with Task Forces assigned to investigate incidents or solve specific problems. Performs cost analyses and Value Engineering studies as appropriate. Undertakes special assignments requiring extensive technical experience and discretion when dealing with outside organizations.
Conduct seminars in the resolution of technical problems with personnel in other Engineering organizations. Writes papers for peer-reviewed journals on engineering studies and projects he has overseen.
Provide engineering leadership to others assigned to assist him. Acts as a professional mentor to less senior specialists and engineers.

The Engineering & Project Management (E&PM) business line studies, plans and oversees the construction of the Company’s new facilities, including some of the biggest and most complex projects in the petroleum industry. Recently, Saudi Aramco completed the largest capital program in its history that included new or expanded oil, gas and petrochemical facilities, raising maximum sustainable crude oil production capacity to 12 million barrels per day and significantly increasing gas production and processing capacities. Among the recently completed projects was the largest crude oil increment in the history of the industry: Khurais, with a production capacity of 1.2 million barrels per day. More challenges lie ahead, with a slate of new or expanded oil, gas, refining and petrochemical projects in the works. E&PM also manages the Company’s Research & Development Center where scientists investigate topics such as the desulfurization of crude oil, advanced fuel formulations for next generation combustion engines, and reservoir nano-scale robots (Resbots™) for injection into reservoirs to record their properties.
