Saudi Aramco is seeking a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling engineer to join the Advanced Process Solutions Division of Process & Control System Department, based in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
The Advanced Process Solutions Division provides engineering expertise in Manufacturing Operations Management, Decisions Support Applications, Advanced Process Control, and Process Modeling and Optimization technologies. The Process Modeling & Optimization Unit provide and leverage best-in-class modeling & optimization solutions to enhance performance and efficiency of Saudi Aramco Hydrocarbons value chain.
The CFD Engineer primary role is to perform CFD simulations of a wide range of applications, using commercial CFD packages, in order to evaluate candidate retrofit configurations of multiphase separators internals, troubleshoot and predict performance of oil processing and/or refinery equipment under different operation scenarios and review and approve contractors’ CFD studies.
Candidates must possess a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a closely related field. A PhD degree is preferred.
A minimum of 10 - 15 years industrial experience is required and the candidates should have a strong background in fluid dynamics both experimental and theoretical besides the Computational Fluid Dynamics particularly of multiphase flows.
A track record showing the ability to conduct interdisciplinary investigations is an asset.
The qualified candidate should be able to apply CFD methods across a broad range of fields and applications including, but not limited to, turbomachinery, multi-phase flow and heat transfer, environmental flows and fluid-structure interaction problems relevant to the oil production and flow assurance.
Candidate should have strong project management skills, interpersonal, problem-solving, teamwork, and communications skills.
Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following tasks:
Develops CFD models and performs simulation for;
Upstream oil production equipment such as multiphase separators knockout drums, mixing valves, inline separators, hydrocyclones etc.
Refinery process optimization, such as catalytic and fluid bed reactors and columns, fired heaters, heat exchangers and furnaces.
Flow assurance related such as hydrate formation, inhibitor transport, multiphase flow, thermal modeling, separation
Provide innovative and creative solutions to proponents
Provide expert technical peer-review on projects and studies and reports involving CFD
Provides expert advice and assistance to Company organizations, outside vendors, manufacturers, and design firms on matters relating to his area of expertise.
Originates and carries out engineering studies to determine potential problems and remedies to existing problems resolve complex technical problems, increase revenue, optimize processes, protect the environment, or improve safety.
Develops and maintains Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards and Design Best Practices, Design Manuals or other documentation to enhance company profitability, safety and productivity.
Evaluates and introduces best practices and new technologies from all over the world to help the Company achieve Best in Class positions in the oil business.
Reviews and evaluates the capabilities of vendors and contractors to determine their acceptability to perform major services to Aramco. Acts as Aramco’s representative in dealings with vendors and manufacturers pertaining to his field of experience.
Works on or with Task Forces assigned to investigate incidents or solve specific problems. Performs cost analyses and Value Engineering studies as appropriate. Undertakes special assignments requiring extensive technical experience and discretion when dealing with outside organizations.
Conducts seminars in the resolution of technical problems with personnel in other Engineering organizations. Writes papers for peer-reviewed journals on engineering studies and projects he has overseen.
Provides engineering leadership to others assigned to assist him. Acts as a professional mentor to less senior specialists and engineers.
Promotes a learning environment and implements self-development to maintain and improve expert status within his engineering specialty.
The Engineering & Project Management (E&PM) business line studies, plans and oversees the construction of the Company’s new facilities, including some of the biggest and most complex projects in the petroleum industry. Recently, Saudi Aramco completed the largest capital program in its history that included new or expanded oil, gas and petrochemical facilities, raising maximum sustainable crude oil production capacity to 12 million barrels per day and significantly increasing gas production and processing capacities. Among the recently completed projects was the largest crude oil increment in the history of the industry: Khurais, with a production capacity of 1.2 million barrels per day. More challenges lie ahead, with a slate of new or expanded oil, gas, refining and petrochemical projects in the works. E&PM also manages the Company’s Research & Development Center where scientists investigate topics such as the desulfurization of crude oil, advanced fuel formulations for next generation combustion engines, and reservoir nano-scale robots (Resbots™) for injection into reservoirs to record their properties.
