We are seeking a Market Analyst to join the Market & Competitive Analysis Division within the Downstream Capital Portfolio Planning Department (DCPPD).
The primary function of the DCPPD is to continually identify, evaluate and optimize the Downstream capital asset program; this is attained in part through conducting in-depth energy market assessments including but not limited to for instance market outlooks, economic and financial evaluation, oil pricing forecasts, competing scenario planning, and awareness of energy policy shifts and regulatory requirements.
Your primary role will be to conduct oil market research and to analyze findings with the objective of identifying new global business opportunities and/or countries where SA can expand.
As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. A graduate degree is highly desirable.
You must have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in the refining and marketing business at a global energy firm, be that in operational or consultative spheres or a major refining and chemical company, of which at least 5 years are devoted to strategic planning.
You will possess and exhibit a breadth and depth of experience in initiating, leading, providing consultation and conducting refining and marketing related studies both individually and in a team setting.
You will have cumulative and demonstrable experience gained by way of carefully and exhaustively analyzing and forging strong market perspectives or positions be that in refining, marketing and distribution, product transportation and storage, chemicals and product trading at reputable downstream company, including power systems and renewable energy.
You will continue your growth and development through structured in-house programs and/or personal initiatives in the areas of professional expertise must be taken into consideration in preserving one’s viability and fitness for the position.
Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:
Provide market perspective and position to guide the informed development of the downstream strategic goals and strategy direction in all areas comprising the Downstream business segments – Example refining, chemicals, pipelines, distribution and transportation, sales and marketing, power systems and renewable energy, trading, etc.
Direct and guide a team of specialized analysts and professionals responsible for crafting and articulating the business strategies of the evolving downstream strategic framework, which includes strategic analysis, strategic direction and the 10-year Investment Plan.
Analyze and monitor price shifts, margin analysis and dynamic market conditions.
Provide regular and ad-hoc pricing analysis and report implications to competitive position.
Collaborate with business lines and other stakeholder organizations to validate/confirm results of and research findings on long-term global trends and energy industry evolution with a view to determining the impact upon operations.
Produce high quality reports, studies and presentations.
Initiate research on wide-ranging topics that look into long-term scenarios that might impact the competitive advantage of downstream operations.
Prepare research and special studies and analyses as required.
Explain the relationship between supply, demand, trade flows, and prices.
Collect, analyze and interpret data and statistics.
Identify and assess different markets, strategies and business models.
Develop benchmark studies for companies, business models, refineries and projects.
Perform high level analysis and modeling and develop quantitative/analytical models.
Train and mentor other individuals and teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information to other organizations.
Assist in various business planning and strategy formulation.
